A WICKER man sculpture in Galloway has been reduced to ash by the artist who created it . Sculptor Trevor Leat posted a photo of his sculpture’s charred remnants to Instagram last Sunday captioning it ‘the dying embers’, showing only the metal frame and some of the wicker branches of the once towering figure. Located on farm land near Dundrennan, the sculpture provided the backdrop to the Wickerman Festival, which ran between 2001 and 2015. It became a popular photo spot for tourists visiting the region as well as fans of the 1973 cult horror of the same name also largely shot in the region. However, it was badly damaged during Storm Eowyn in January, with the sculpture almost half of the size it once was. Although it is gone for the time being, speculation has begun that there are plans for another artwork to take its place next year. Photo by Trevor Leat
