ST MICHAEL’S Primary School celebrated its 160th anniversary last week. And the school was alive with creativity and celebration as pupils marked the special milestone. In the lead-up to the main event, they designed and decorated their own cupcakes using the school colours of gold and brown, finished with white stars to reflect the cherished motto, ‘Reach for the Stars’. On the official anniversary day last Friday, pupils began the day with a special assembly exploring what school life would have been like during the Victorian era. Winners of the school’s anniversary card competition were also presented with their prizes. [caption id="attachment_68067" align="aligncenter" width="724"]

The day concluded with refreshments, including the pupils’ own decorated cupcakes, and each child receiving commemorative items to mark this significant occasion. The celebrations extended into Saturday, when the school hosted an open day, inviting members of the community, past and present, to tour the refurbished school building, celebrate the rich history of the school, and reconnect with former pupils and families. Headteacher Mrs Thomson, who has been part of the St Michael’s Primary community for over 14 years, reflected on the significance of this milestone, saying: “Celebrating 160 years of St Michael’s is not only about honouring our past, but also about inspiring our future. Our school has always been a place where children are encouraged to dream big, believe in themselves, and truly reach for the stars. This milestone is a testament to the strength of our community, the dedication of our staff, and the achievements of generations of pupils. We are incredibly proud of our heritage and excited for all that lies ahead.” [caption id="attachment_68066" align="alignnone" width="775"]
