TWO weeks of goose gaiety is set to hit the region next week, with the return of the Wild Goose Festival The event shines a light on the unique habitats in the region that support local and migrating wildlife from across the globe. With over 70 events from hands-on workshops and family-friendly activities to inspiring talks and outdoor adventures, it’s a chance to explore the unique stories and natural beauty of Dumfries and Galloway. At the heart of the festival is WWT Caerlaverock where visitors can experience the sight of geese taking off or returning to roost during dawn and dusk flights; partake in birdwatching breakfasts with expert guides, as well as learn more about the lives of the migratory birds and the wetlands during guided walks. David Pickett, centre and reserve manager at WWT Caerlaverock, said: “The staff at WWT Caerlaverock are eagerly awaiting to hear the first geese touch down on the reserve. “When you are struggling to make sense of the world around you, and winter is beckoning, few sights and sounds are as uplifting as thousands of geese filling the skies, honking in unison.”
