7785 crimes in region
A TOTAL of 7785 crimes were recorded in Dumfries and Galloway in the year leading up to June.
However, that was a three per cent drop on the previous year, when there were 8020.
Scotland’s Chief Statistician released the statistics as part of a ‘Recorded Crime in Scotland, year ending June 2025’ report.
And it shows that locally there were 2097 instances of violence, including one murder, three deaths by dangerous driving and 1691 common assaults.
An increase was noted in domestic abuse, which went up to 124 from 104 previously.
Then there were 543 sexual crimes, up from 481, of which 95 were rape or attempted.
Furthermore, there were 28 instances of indecent photos of children, as well as 28 threatening to or disclosing intimate images.
Dishonesty cases totalled 2177 and featured 192 housebreakings,
56 thefts from vehicles and 96 stolen vehicles, along with 579 shopliftings and 423 frauds.
Police were alerted to 902 cases of vandalism locally; and 1930 crimes were classed as ‘crimes against society’, ranging from weapons possession and weapons use, to drugs supply. Of these, the biggest type was crimes against public justice at 867, followed by drug possession at 740.
The report also showed that during the 12 months, the police in Scotland recorded 303,343 crimes.
