A £710,000 investment from the Scottish Government has been secured for two of Stranraer’s regeneration projects. This significant funding milestone marks a major step forward in the town’s regeneration journey, and kickstarts the project’s and improvements outlined in the town’s place plan. The grant will support the early development of two priority projects: Town Centre Living, which aims to create new residential and enterprise spaces in the heart of Stranraer, and the Dick’s Hill Community Hub, a new facility designed to serve and empower the community. Councillor Tony Berretti, vice chair of the council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee, commented: “The creation of the Stranraer Place Plan and the emergence of the Town Team have been game-changers. This grant is a testament to the hard work of our communities, partner organisations, and council officers. We’re still in the early stages, but this funding allows us to begin the vital planning and survey work needed to bring these projects to life.” Preliminary reports and surveys are expected to begin over the summer, with development work to follow. The council will continue to work closely with the Town Team and other partners to ensure the projects are delivered in line with community needs and aspirations. Residents can stay informed about progress through the Reshaping Stranraer newsletter and the digital screen located in the Stranraer Customer Service Centre.
