AN INJURED forestry worker has been flown to hospital after an accident in the Galloway Forest, near Newton Stewart

The Galloway Mountain Rescue team was called out by Dumfries and Galloway Police Division just before midday on Thursday.

The request for assistance came frm the Scottish Ambulance Service after a 22-year-old received serious leg injuries.

He was trapped by a log in the forest at Craighandle, near to Murray’s Monument at Newton Stewart.

As the Ambulance crew assessed the casualty, team members prepared for the casualty to be taken out and the HM Coastguard helicopter from Prestwick scrambled.

Because of the rough terrain and trees which made it impossible for the helicopter to land in the forest, team members used a ‘high line’ to assist in winching the casualty onboard the aircraft.

The casualty to hospital in Ayr for treatment. suffering from a broken leg.
