But Police Scotland, which is awaiting the outcome of a postmortem, state that there appears to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of 40-year-old David Crawford.

Several police vehicles and two ambulances responded to an emergency call around 2.35 on Friday afternoon.

Detectives and forensics officers spent time at the scene, a ground floor flat on the west side of the street, but the operation was later scaled back.

The Procurator Fiscal at Dumfries has been informed.
