Volunteers call for town's day in spotlight

VOLUNTEERS are being sought to help Annan proudly carry off its role in this year's Day of the Region celebrations.

Annan has been selected to once again host the event as one of six locations in the region, after organising a programme last year which was been described as ‘incredibly successful’.
A group of volunteers are busy setting up their local working group and will be holding a public meeting on Monday for anyone who would like to get involved in this year’s event.
In a statement, the group said: “After the success of 2015, Annan has been selected to host Day of the Region 2016.
“A public meeting will be held for any interested parties or community groups who would like to get involved.
“The meeting will take place at Annan town hall on Monday August 1 at 6 pm.”
Now in its sixth year, Day of the Region provides an opportunity for community groups, organisations and individuals with an interest or skill to come together and promote what is available in their area during a concentrated weekend of free activities celebrating rural community life.
And the meeting is being promoted to anyone who feels that their group or business could benefit from the exposure.
Day of the Region runs on weekends throughout September, at Sanquhar, Glentrool and Bargrennan, Kirkonnel and Kelloholm, Stranraer, Annan and Lochmaben.
