Nett is still rolling at 100

A MEMBER of a Dumfries bowling club has no plans to retire from the greens - despite turning 100 this week.

Nett Farquarson celebrated her centenary on Thursday, after a party thrown by her friends at Marchmount Bowling Club.
Joining the bowling club with her husband in the 1970s, Nett still bowls twice a week in the winter at the short mat and outside on the green in the summer.
Nett married Norman in 1937 and had two children, Gordon and Margaret – and is proud to be a grandmother of three.
She worked as a gown buyer for Barbours, retiring in 1978.
And she moved to live with her daughter Margaret when they were both widowed.
Friends say that nothing seems to get Nett down, and she ‘just gets on with it’.
Nett lost an eye to a tumour about 20 years ago but this does not stop her doing her bowling, gardening and baking her famous scones.
Asked the secret of a long life, Nett says she does not know and is just lucky.
She says she cannot believe she is 100 as she still feels as if she is 27 – with bowling continuing to keep her active.
