Mixed weekend for race team

A DUMFRIES rallycross team was denied the chance to bag a podium place in the latest round of the FIA European Rallycross Championship at the weekend.

But Albatec Racing is already eyeing a top spot in the final round at Franciacorta, Italy next month after disappointing races at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya last Saturday and Sunday.
Frenchman Jérôme Grosset-Janin, who won two of the four heats in his Peugeot 208 RX supercar, easily progressed to the final, but contact with Jonni-Pekka Rajala brought his bid for a third podium finish to an end.
Meanwhile, the weekend proved tough for British team-mate James Grint as the rallycross newcomer hit a concrete wall on the first lap of his first heat race.
And substantial damage to his car prevented him from competing in the second heat but he was back in the action for the third before exiting in the fourth heat – dropping him out of contention for a third semi-final appearance of the season.
Team principal Andy Scott said: “It’s been a mixed weekend for Team Albatec. Jérôme showed amazing speed when he was going and we go forward to Italy to fight for the championship.
“James had a mixed weekend, with not much practice on Saturday and he was very unlucky. His driving is improving race on race, and our ambition is to get him through to the final in Italy.”
