Celebrity diner surprises Lockerbie landlord

FUNNY man Peter Kay dined at one of the region’s top rated restaurants in Lockerbie last week, even ordering his favourite garlic bread.

The comedian, who is celebrating ‘20 Years of Funny’ and making the British public laugh this year, surprised Lockerbie publican Stephen Montgomery when he and his family stopped by for a meal.

The Townhead Hotel owner was delighted to welcome the Bolton celebrity and was even more pleased when he learned the comedian had picked his restaurant thanks to its top rating on Tripadvisor.

Rated number one out of 364 eateries in the area, for Peter, choosing the Townhead was a no brainer.

Stephen said: “He found us on Tripadvisor and decided to give us a try and he said he really enjoyed everything and that we were very friendly.

“Tripadvisor is a fantastic tool if used properly. “We have all worked so hard to get the ratings that we have on every review site, but to have someone like Peter Kay choosing to visit us because of our number one ranking in Dumfries and Galloway for restaurants, well that bares testimony to my staff and their hard work and determination.”

And gushing about what brilliant customers the Kay family were, he added: “He was brilliant, down to earth and just like you would see him on TV.

“He was in with his wife and three children, who were just great, and they were heading up north for a few days.”

And Stephen confirmed that the top comedian did indeed order his signature garlic bread…but wasn’t able to manage a cheesecake.

Stephen said: “Peter said if they were in the area again they would call in. “He was such a genuine guy and happy to pose for pictures with customers and staff.”
