Cancer survivor's top shot

A DUMFRIES cancer survivor has fought back from cancer and scored an ace in his first monthly medal since undergoing treatment.

Two-handicapper, Michael Whatley, 53, holed out on the 90-yard, par-three 14th at Dumfries and County Golf Club and his outstanding shot has been recognised with a designer watch as part of a give-away for every club competition hole-in-one.
Speaking about his illness and return to his beloved sport Michael said: “I was diagnosed with throat cancer at the start of 2015 and I subsequently underwent a six-week course of treatment, at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, in Glasgow.
“I played my first medal at the Dumfries and County GC following my treatment and it proved to be a special one when my tee shot at the 14th ended up in the hole.”
