Anna is ready, steady for Olympics

OLYMPIC curler Anna Sloan will touch down in South Korea tonight.

The 28-year-old Lockerbie native has spent a week training in Japan with her team-mates ahead of the tournament, which gets underway on Wednesday. Team GB, skipped by Eve Muirhead, will face Olympic Athletes from Russia in their first game, scheduled for 2.05pm local time.

Speaking as she prepared to board her flight to South Korea, Anna said: “I am really looking forward to getting there and doing a bit of exploring before we get started. We have a day off training to relax and recover then we will be back into it. We are going to try and get some speed skating and mixed doubles tickets too.”

The athletes are set to face freezing conditions, with the mercury plummeting to minus 16 in the mountains but hovering near zero at the coast. Anna added: “It is very cold so we are very grateful for all of our Team GB kit. “I will definitely be putting on as many layers as I can as I’m a complete cold tattie.”

As well as looking forward to their medal campaign, with hopes to improve on the bronze they received in Sochi in 2014, Anna said: “I’ve also heard to get from our apartment to the food hall in the village we have scooters – I am excited for that.”

Meanwhile, Lockerbie’s Kenny Edwards has also headed East for the games. The former curler-turned-commentator will be reporting on all the games over the next few weeks.
