Concern after clothes found near river

A PILE of male clothing found on a Dumfries bridge has sparked a police appeal for information.

Police Scotland are keen to find out if someone entered the River Nith, after the discovery of the clothing on Devorgilla Bridge in the early hours of this morning.

A statement said: “They were found in circumstances which may suggest that someone has entered the river at some stage.

“It is not clear if the person has intended to cause themselves harm or whether there is an innocent explanation.”

It added: “Have you seen anyone at the Devorgilla Bridge (Mill Road side) during the night getting undressed or anyone in the water?

“If so, please let us know by phoning 101.”
