10k series win for George

A VETERAN runner from Lockerbie is celebrating after winning a 10k race in Carlisle.

Retired teacher George Fraser won the Sports in Action 10k series in the male vet 70 series.
The ADAC member lined up with 250 other runners at the city’s Bitts Park on August 27. The race took in park paths and quiet country roads and finished back at Bitts Park.
George ran a steady race and his time of 59:52 was good enough to ensure first place in the male vet 70 category ahead of his two age group rivals.
Just as important as his first place finish was the fact that this result gave George first place in the Carlisle City 10k series in his age group.
This is the third year of this series and it started in January with the Carlisle Resolution 10k and was followed by further 10k races in May and June. The lowest three scores out of the four races decided the series winners. George competed in January and June and his latest result just edged out his nearest rival.
His success follows that of fellow ADAC runner Andy Render, who won the 2016 series in the male vet 40 category.
