Woman dies in A701 crash

A WOMAN has died after her car was in collision with a heavy goods vehicle on the A701 near Parkgate, Dumfries on Thursday night.

The 32-year-old, who was driving a Ford Focus, received fatal injuries in an accident with a Scania lorry at around 7.40 pm.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 43-year-old lorry driver was uninjured.

Police Scotland state the road remained closed until 4 am to allow recovery and an accident investigation.

A spokesman said: “A number of witnesses, who stopped at the scene to render assistance, are still to be traced.

“It is requested that anyone who may have information about the crash makes contact with the Divisional Roads Policing Unit.”

He added that they could be contacted at Cornwall Mount, Dumfries or alternatively on the non-emergency101 number.

A report is being prepared for the Procurator Fiscal at Dumfries.
